One Year Ago

I had a freak side effect to the medicine Topomax and it changed my life forever.

I went to bed with a normal life and woke up blind.

And I still spend everyday trying not to be angry, trying to adjust to the new life I've been left with.

Some days I do better with that than others.

Quick Update:
  • My darling Pie turned three with an awesome pirate party
  • She started soccer
  • She is about to move into a big girl bed (yikes)
  • I left my job after 13 years...it's a little crazy not being there
  • I am weeks aways from finishing my masters. I graduate May 4th
  • Finishing the degree with all the medical stuff has been nearly impossible
  • I have missed you all!
For some reason my pics aren't cooperating, but hopefully I'll have some soon.

Hope all is well with you guys...

So Much Craziness

I can't believe it's been 3 weeks since I posted last. It's been total madness around here!

In those three weeks, we've:
  • had guests in and out of the house
  • I went to the eye doctor again
  • I left a job that I've had for 13 years
  • I became unemployed for the first time since I was 15
  • I am in the last week of my Masters...yup you read that right...I have two classes (one tonight and one Wednesday) and then I'm done with all the course work for this degree.
So it's been a little nutty. I promise I have posts planned for all of that stuff...but in the mean time wish me luck on surviving this week!

Absolute Perfection

This weekend was beyond gorgeous here so we had no choice but to be outside. Pie thought a trip to the playground might be nice, and imagine our surprise when we got there and it was completely empty! We had the whole place to ourselves the entire time we were there.

I can't count the number of times Pie went down that spiral slide (or how many times I did...I had forgotten how much fun they were)

Pie was especially happy about having the big sand pit to herself.

So she "shuh-bulled" (shoveled), and we built castles, and sideways trains...

...and an octopus that had a few issues with his tentacles.

And all of that added up to one very happy girl. And a very happy Mama and Daddy.

Happy Hallo-way too late

So I'm a total slacker and haven't been around much, but I still wanted to share my Halloween pics...

This was the first attempt at a Halloween door...the mummy! Was so cute despite running out of supplies, but it rained that night and the mummy was no more.

Pumpkin time. I like to do pumpkins that Pie can get into. So this year I cut shapes out of masking tape....

And let Pie have at it.

After she was done, I peeled off the tape and outlined the shapes with sharpie. I think they turned out really cute. I also covered the little pumpkin with spray adhesive and handed her a bottle of glitter. It was a ridiculous mess and totally worth it!

And here's the mummy replacement door. Frankenstein...He wasn't quite as cute, but oh well, it was fun to do.

The Tuesday before Halloween Pie's school had dress up day, so off my little pirate went to collect her treasure.

I caught her mid "Ahoy" in this one...

I have a friend whose bday is Halloween so I made some treats for her - cupcakes, bones, and boo mix. Thankfully Pie was on hand to taste test everything and make sure it wasn't poisonous.

And finally the time came to trick-or-treat (also known in our house as tricky treat). My little pirate got fully decked out in her boots, tights, and inflatable sword. She was ready to swashbuckle!

I was at school (boo) so I missed the event, but Husband took her out and hooked up with her neighborhood friends to get some candy. She was determined to say "ahoy matey, give me some treasure!" instead of trick-or-treat, but apparently got too caught up in the excitement and went the traditional route like the other kids. Then of course she had to sort through her loot.

And had the resulting sugar high...blurry photo and all

And the eventually, candy-covered face crash.

Another holiday down...on to Thanksgiving!

WW: Only Slightly Terrifying Preschool Craft

Okay. Maybe a little more than slightly terrifying...Pie came home from school with this gem yesterday. And I may or may not (and totally did) have nightmares about those freaky eyes with the black around them and the whole no nose/mouth thing....but it can be used for so many things.

as a mask

as a stylish hair accessory

and then this attention hog (hehe) had to get in on the action...

Pie Narrates...

My darling Pie has decided she must narrate her life. Everything she sees, everything she does, everything anyone else does...it's all up for grabs.

During our 10 minute drive this morning (well Pie and I were riding since I still can't drive) we were treated to the following:

Mama? Mama? Mama! Dares a squirrel.

A squirrel says squeak squeak.

Get out of the way silly squirrel, you get hit by the car, you get a bad booboo.

Mama? Mama? Mama! Where's the big water? I don't see it. It hiding? (we drive past a decent sized pond)

Oh dares the big water.

Oh! Silly geese on the grass. They so silly.

You get the point. It never stops. And it never fails to crack me up! But I especially love when she's playing and starts to sing to herself. I melt every.single.time.

Other things heard in my house recently:

1. After riding on a trike with Husband and deciding to "help" him steer...

I push like dis, we go zoom, daddy say oh damnit

2. She tends to speak in third person and we've been reminding her to say I instead of her
    name...and she's mostly got it

I Pie got a drink. I Pie go outside. Pie has snack...oopsey-daisey...I Pie has a snack.

3. And my personal favorite...I seriously (no sarcasm intended) have no idea where
    she got this

I Pie got a booboo...need to put some chocolate on it...that makes it feel all betta

I remember wondering when she started speech therapy if she would ever say anything. Now I wonder if she will ever keep a thought to herself :)

Greatest Conversation Ever

Scene opens on dirty (but charming, charming and homey, and awesome) living room.

Man and woman are each working on a laptop and the tv is on in the background.

Suddenly loud noises are heard from outside.

Woman: What's that noise?

Man: It's either fireworks or a really big robot.

Woman: Ohhhh, I kind of hope it's a really big robot.

Man: Yeah...that would be really cool.

Woman: What would be going on with fireworks tonight?

Man: I don't know. Maybe we finally won the war on drugs.

End scene.
