So tired...

This little goofball
With her two little teeth (you gotta look closely)

Is making me a crazy person! She naps fine, and goes to bed fine, but all of a sudden is up a million times a night. Before the arrival of lefty and righty she was only waking up once a night for a snack and then right back to sleep. Oh no! Not anymore! Now it's up constantly for snuggles, for snacks, for the hell of it.
I'm sure it's the teething. In addition to the two that have already debuted, it looks like top lefty won't be far behind. I know she doesn't feel good. But holy cow am I beat. Any suggestions?

Just a minute...

Monday Minute

What was your "oh no, I'm turning into my Mom/Dad" moment?
I work with my dad so I see this every day. I am so his child. The way I think about things, the way I work, my deep-seated love of office supplies...

What current commercial do you find the most annoying/funny?
Hmm, this is a tough one. I almost never watch live tv. Everything is from the DVR so the commercials get skipped.

If you could only eat one color food for the rest of your life what would it be?
Green. I love all my green veggies, plus I the green fruits are pretty tasty too.

What is your current Facebook/Myspace/Twitter status?
I don't have any of these. I know...shocking right? I'm the last holdout.

F, Marry, Kill from this list below. Women pick from the men, men pick from the women.
Snookie (from Jersey Shore), Ellen DeGeneres, Betty White
Regis Philbin, Justin Bieber, Perez Hilton

F...I'm not sure I could stomach any of them without a tremendous amount of liquor
Marry...Betty White for sure. She's hilarious, probably makes kicks ass cookies and is RICH
Kill...Can I pick more than one? If not it would be Justin Bieber. I can't stand that kid.

3.This one is scary...

The assingment: Please write a narrative poem that focuses on the workings of a family, whether it be your own or one that you've created from scratch.

The result:
i can feel the tears starting, every morning the same
the moment your dimpled hand is out of reach
the moment your smell is no longer nestled around me

my time away stretches on
i am lesser somehow without you
i am dulled

you are not of my flesh, not of my blood
but you are of my heart
but you are of my dreams

little girl
how you have changed me
how you have changed my world

4. And last but not least...the birth of a gamer.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Calling all crafty-crafters

So this is the dress that Pie wore to court when we finalized the adoption.

Full dress... Stripe detail...
Neck detail...
I want to do something special, but framing it just isn't my style. I thought about maybe having it turned into a handkerchief that she could have when she's older, but...

I feel like I want it to be something useful, something she'll always have, but also not something that she'll use all the time and destroy. HELP!!!

Random

I'm super scattered today, so this post is a bunch of little things that I've been thinking about...

Leah at the Lovely Life of Leah is a mere 5 followers away from her goal of 100. Lucky 100 will get a fantastic prize. I'm rather jealous of the goodies that lucky person will get! If you don't already follow Leah you should check her out, because (other than that awesome button):

  1. She's a thrift shopping pro
  2. She takes awesome pics, and
  3. Look what she can make (Gav is so adorable!)

I need comment help. I want to get one of the add-ins that let you have a threaded conversation in the replies. I've looked at CommentLuv and Disqus and a few others, but am not sure which to choose. Any suggestions?

My 100th post is coming up. What would you guys like to see? My back story, more about Pie's story, random facts....any and all thoughts welcome.

Open Adoption Roundtable #18

Remember, you don't have to be participating in the OAR to comment. I'm always interested to hear what you smarty-pants have to say. If you're interested in how other people are responding, click here for more participants.

Question:
We each interacted with at least one professional during the adoption process (agency, lawyer, facilitator, consultant, hospital social worker, etc.). What was one thing that they did that was most supportive of open adoption? What one thing was least supportive?

Answer:
As an adoptive parent I think it's unusual to come across negativity from the professionals involved. It's such a joyous experience from the adoptive families' perspective, and that joy tends to encompass those around you. I was amazed and overwhelmed by the hospital staff when my daughter was born. I was in the delivery room, and the nurses and doctors were fantastic. They were all so excited for us. And I'd like to think they were equally as sensitive to the birth parents. They were all very aware that while it was a day we had been dreaming of, it was also a day that the birth parents were struggling to find their footing during.

The only thing we came across was surprise. Most of the hospital staff, and our attorney, were surprised at how open the adoption was, and how laid back we all were about it. More than once, someone commented to my husband or I that they couldn't believe how much contact we had with the birth parents. And that they would be too nervous to have things be so open.

Going into the situation I thought we might encounter people who would be less than supportive because we are in the south and my daughter is multi-racial, but no one seemed to care. I think the absolute joy radiating from my husband and I blinded everyone we came in contact with to anything other than the love pouring from us.
