Worst. Mommy. Ever.

OK, I have to tell you all this, but may cry thinking about it again.

Last night I was cutting Pie's finger nails...always a fun activity...and on the last nail, the very last nail, she jerked and I...I....cut her finger instead. There was a moment of absolute silence. We were both so stunned. Then her little mouth opened and no sound came out. Then the shrieking. I thought I was going to die.

Her little thumb was bleeding and I had caused it. Bad mommy. She spent the rest of the night holding her thumb inside her little, chunky fist. She was protecting it. I'm not sure it's possible for me to feel any worse.

She seemed to have forgiven me this morning, but just barely....

I can't end on that though, so here's another shot of the chunk in her bikini, hat and float having an awesome time at the pool.

I did that to my third daughter - second day of her life - the girls all still tell the story. ;)

Thanks Tiffany - that made me a little teary eyed.

That's too funny Gina - I plan to pretend it never happened :) well except for the part about posting it on the internet for everyone to see of course!

I did that to! But to my niece. I felt so terrible! But it healed and she is fine :)

Oh geez, that sucks.

I felt like the worst mother ever on the day Girlie was born because I "let" MIL cut her nails. Yeaaah, you can't cut brand new baby nails. Blood everywhere. She felt horrible. And then I felt like the worst DIL ever, because I was so pleased she felt bad.

Angie - thankfully I have managed to say away from the nieces and nephews with sharp objects!

Fakey - I oh no'ed for Girlie, but laughed at your MIL and you for being pleased. Sounds like my reactions to my MIL. Right now she's pushing to pierce Pie's ears. She did her nieces' without parental consent. So I never leave her alone with Pie...problem solved!

I did that to my first child. She was a few weeks old. She forgave and all is better. But it totally broke my heart so I know how your feeling. It happens to the best of us. Your an awesome mommy!

Thanks Lindsey! I'm starting to feel better that I'm not the only one whose horribly maimed their child with the clippers :)

I cut Hudson big toe when he was 8 weeks old trying to cut his toenails. I've never felt so terrible in my life. He cried. I cried. It was terrible, so I know how you feel. It probably bothered you more than her though.

She's precious!! Love that little bikini. Adorable.

p.s. You're right. Without an H is definitely a rare breed. :) And thank you for your sweet comments about Hudson!

Ahh Sara, it happens! I did this to Bailey when she was a newborn, double bad Mom, right? It is hard to cut their nails! You are a great Mommmy :) She is way too cute in her bikini!!

Sara - I'm sure it bothered me more...but I think that made it even worse. Her sweet, trusting little face looking at me like, "Why, WHY?!"

Not hard to say sweet things about Hudson, he is cute, cute, cute!!

Cindy - I think it's the hardest thing ever. Husband refuses to even try. I tried to do it while she slept, but she likes to sleep with her hands curled in so it would wake her up. And she has some freak dna that makes her nails grow wicked fast. It's a constant battle.

OMG I did this. :( :( :( Only I did it the FIRST TIME I CUT THEM! I will never ever forget it... but I know she has. And so has Pie. I promise.

BTW- forgot to tell you that we were headed to Gulf Shores as well. I'm hoping it'll get better, but we may have to find a new destination later in the summer!

Thats why I refuse to cut Mia's nails. Daycare does it for me every Tuesday. It's their nail day!!! It scares the crap out of me!

She is sooo super cute. Luckily they have terrible short-term memories.

Her Momma - Isn't it the worst feeling ever?!

Sara - I LOVE Gulf Shores. I'm so bummed not going. It's been our summer spot for years, we know where everything is, particularly the beignets...YUM!

sara said...

Nikki - Hmmm...I wonder if I could find someone else to do it. Now I'm all traumatized!

Thanks K! Must remember the crap short-term memory part...maybe she'll forgive me for some of the things I dress her in then too :)

Eeep! I was just drifting about and following links... but I have to delurk to tell you (along with so many of your readers) that you are SO not alone! I did this same thing to my first baby... and then get this, the second daughter as well! GAHHHH! Thumbs both times. Hadda put a bandaid on the thumb, then duct tape a wee sock over their hands to keep it clean and keep the bandaid on. They may have cried harder... but I certainly cried longer than the poor things.

They are now eight and six and they have neither scars nor memory of it. Also, I have managed not to do it with my next two kids, so mebbe there is just a steep learning curve. For me.

I hate when that happens. I have cut both my daughter once each. Of course the youngest is only 4 month so there is time for more! Both also have their father's nails which grow so fast that I have to cut them about twice a week!

I go to Kaplan University online for my Masters. I do like it, it is so much easier then having to go to class. The hardest part is that it is an excelerated program and you have to be disciplined, which sometimes I am not!

I talk, then you talk, and sometimes I talk back again. It's a conversation! And we can all pretend we're not internet shut-ins who never talk to anyone. Hooray!
