Seriously Jimmy...we've had this talk already

So Husband, Brother, Brother in Law 1, Brother in Law 2, and some neighbors went to see Jimmy Buffett last night. I'm sure I'll have more stories (and hopefully pics) once he recovers enough to tell me, but for the time being I'm going to repost my open letter to Jimmy after last year's show. Originally posted 4/28/2010.

Just replace The Varsity with Slopes BBQ and the rest is still dead on.

Dearest Jimmy -

In the interest of full disclosure, I should start this note with the fact that I am not a fan. I'm sure you're a really nice multi-gazillionaire, but your music just isn't my scene. I am, however, exposed to it in great volumes because my husband is what you crazy kids call a parrothead. He loves your music, admires your life (steel drums and all), and as if all of that weren't bad enough, I have to live with the after effects of your concerts too.

You were in town last night and my husband, brother and two brothers-in-law went to the show. I feel like it's important that you know the damage done by this event. In chronological order:
  • Husband spent a crapton of money on booze for the pre-show festivities.
  • He has spent weeks "in training" to build up his tolerance and bladder in preparation.
  • He has also spent these weeks talking incessantly about what the show will be like, what music they should listen to on the way to and from the show, etc driving me utterly crazy.
  • They stopped at The Varsity (Slopes BBQ this year) for dinner. This is not a good choice given Husband's cholesterol issues.
  • At the show itself much revelry and drinking was had by all.
  • On the way home from the show, they stopped at the Waffle House. Again with the cholesterol.
  • He stumbled into our house about 1:00am, waking me up. Thank god he didn't wake up our daughter...this would be a very different letter if he had.
  • He then proceeded to stink the joint up with all his booziness. Even when he was not in the room I could smell him. I fear permanent damage may have been done to the linens...the mattress...the carpet. Can drywall hold a smell? If we have to replace that too, you'll be getting a bill.
  • He woke me up around 4:00am to let me know he might vomit. Why he felt the need to have a discussion about this, I couldn't say.
  • And as the cherry on top, just being in a three meter range of him, I could taste the alcohol. Not pleasant when you haven't been drinking yourself.
I'm sure you mean well, bringing "joy and music" to the masses, but as you can clearly see it causes problems. Please take this into consideration the next time you are planning a tour.

Fins to the right and all that...

Kisses,
Sara

What?! You're not a Buffett fan? ;)

I actually had no idea who JB was until I met Jared...now I have been to more concerts than I care to count. Hope your hubby had fun at the show, and didn't keep you up all night!

I ended up leaving him on the couch, where a couple of the guys dumped him, so I slept fine after that :)

Poor Ralph! And I can't blame you for my darling husband being overserved...by himself.
wow, and here i thought i was the only living human above 30 who didn't care for JB or his music. i just dont give a damn. i have friends who are so infatuated that i was sure they would name their boy Jimmy or Buffet or Parrot. i was SHOCKED when they didnt. and ew. i can SMELL the show and its afterlife from here. :D

Can't stand him for the most part. There are one or two songs that are okay, but I certainly never try to listen to his stuff. You probably can smell it from there! I think several things are going to have to be professionally cleaned after this one :D
I laughed out loud and scared my puppy when I read that he woke you up to let you know he needed to puke. Totally something my husband would do! haha Awesome post.

I don't know why I need to know that...just go puke! Hahaha
Jimmy Buffett people are crazy.

Seriously nuts! I'm still waiting to hear the story behind the shark fin jacket thing I found on the floor this morning.
OMGosh this made me smile the whole way through! Don't you just love it when drunk people feel the need to tell you EVERYthing you don't want to know? I hope he recovered (before you murderized him).

He just made it under the line. I ended up feeling too badly for him to be all that mad.
hahaha, i'm not a jimmy fan either. and if husband woke me up at four because of him? i would hate him even more.

Amen! I can't wait for the next few weeks to go by so the constant jb music playing lessens up a bit!!
