Why Can't I Get in the Swing

I just can't seem to get into the Christmas spirit this year. Which is crazy since it's my first Christmas as a mom. We were going to get our tree this weekend, but didn't. I was going to pull out the decorations, but I didn't. I have so much to do still and just can't seem to get with it. Anyone else having trouble getting in the spirit?

Plus I have to figure out Pie's birthday...any and all suggestions welcome. Seriously. Any.

Congrats on making it to the next round! I voted again today! :)

I'm sure you'll get super creative ideas from super awesome mommies on what to do for Pie's 1st birthday (which is WONDERFUL! That's what I love about Blog Land! :) BUT if time and money aren't in abundance right now, I'm telling you, the Winter ONEderland theme is the way to go! :) it's super adorable, super cheap, and SO easy to find decorations (in addition to making them). Just this weekend I realized I have tons of decorations around the house (that are up for Christmas) that I can use to decorate for the party (since Christmas will be over by then. I have a ton of snowman/wintery stuff that is up, that it just dawned on me I can use). Then I've been wondering about what to use for centerpieces...my mom used to collect Snowbabies and has a TON of beautiful, adorable ones...I will borrow them, and they are going to be centerpieces. Trust me, I am SO not creative, slightly poor ;) and have NO time, so this is really turning out to be a great theme.

Sorry for the longest comment in blogging history! ;) But I'm very passionate about Winter ONEderland! :)

I think you're right. I was poking around a little and think I can probably do some pretty cute things on the cheap. I checked out Oriental Trading and they have tons of bags/cups/plates/whatev super cheap.

Why is your link not working?! Errr. Give me your url again so I can just save in my favs and not have to fight stupid Blogger!
Off to vote in a moment. With Corbin and Jax both we just did small, close family only first birthday parties but with Corbin I did a huge invite all our friends and family second birthday party and she had a blast. With Jax I'm not sure what we'll do for his second birthday because we don't really have many local friends and family to invite. But for the first birthday I think a big party is just a bit overwhelming for most kids.

We're doing small too, family and a few close friends. Pie doesn't do so well in big groups, so we wanted to make sure she would be comfortable. It is her day after all :D
I'm totally opposite right now, but you know that... and I actually attribute it to the fact that a) i got all shopping for her for both xmas and her 4 day later bday done in the summer (gross, eh?) and b) i'm done planning her 1st bday party and am now just waiting on the rsvps. Leaves me time to think of just today and tomorrow instead of today, tomorrow, xmas, her bday, etc. Anyway, for the bday, it may not be glamorous but I'm SO GLAD we're doing it out of the home so that we don't have to worry about set up or clean up... and we're keeping it super simple: pizza, pop, cake, balloons, gifts. Not the cheapest route, but definitely the easiest. hang in there momma!!!

I'm so jealous that you're done! I haven't even started and don't get me going on all that has to be done for Christmas before I can even think about Pie's birthday! YIKES!

Is it too early for a drink?
My sons first birthday is Febuary 4th and I am stressing over the details. Well I am stressing over figuring them all out! Its so hard! I did a HUGE party for my first born and it makes me feel like I should do something just as big for his too...but will he really care? GAH...
I voted :)

I feel the same way...Pie may be it for us, so I almost feel like I have to blow out every event, because I may not get another chance at it.

Thanks for the vote :D
Come on, bah-humbug! Tis the Season......bust out those decorations and get in gear!

The first birthday is all for you anyway, so just do whatever makes you happy! :) Pie will never know the difference and she'll love it because her mommy loves it. Good luck!! I can't believe she's almost one already. Time flies!!

Very true...on both counts. I bet the decorations will help get me going. And Pie's bday party is absolutely for me!

I'm so excited about your news!! Congrats again!
i totally hear ya. we haven't gotten our tree yet either, but i think we're doin it tonight. i think having a kid is actually PART of the reason, because it's just one more thing to do, ya know?

Definitely more stuff to get, more pressure to start traditions, more pressure to make it perfect. And then her bday right on the heels of it. Oy!
I CAN'T either. I'm not even putting up a tree...I don't think. We travel for the holidays and I like to take it down before we leave anyway so at this rate I'd be putting it up only to take it right back down. You should do a "Pie" theme for her b-day. I saw a cute book Pie-related today and thought of her.

You should go to walgreens (do you have those) and just get a charlie brown tree. We have one and it cracks me up...

I'm having some trouble getting into it, too. Paul claims I ALWAYS have trouble EVERY year. *scoff*

My suggestion for a first birthday party is keep it small. Make a cake, or buy a cupcake. Buy a couple of presents. Take a few pictures. SMALL. SIMPLE. Or do it up big if you LIKE to do it up big, of course. But if you don't have a preference, or if you're not sure what to do, or if you are having trouble getting into it---keep it SMALL and SIMPLE and EASY.

I think I'm having extra trouble this year because I usually have a ton of time off and I don't this year. It's making me angry.

I like small, simple and easy. I keep thinking I need to make it bigger, but I don't. I just need to have it be fun for Pie.
I'm in that exact same boat! I'm SO not in the holiday spirit and then feeling totally guilty because this should be the most exciting Christmas EVER and instead, I'm blah! The tree is up but the house isn't decorated. The presents aren't bought. I have no clue what I want to get people. I don't feel much like figuring it out. Very bah humbug.

If you figure out the secret to getting in the holiday spirit when you have absolutely zero reason NOT to be, please share it!!
