Some kind of tired

We had so much fun yesterday and then I stayed up way too late, so now I'm beat! Yesterday we went over to Middle Sister's house and had a cookout. Lots of yummy food, lots of chatting and it was finished off with the best banana pudding ever. Seriously ever. I'm not usually a big banana pudding person, but I really wanted to make my bowl of it my new best friend. And Pie couldn't get enough of it, she "mmmm"-ed and happily kicked her legs with every bite. I'll try to get the recipe.

And then I'm flipping through the channels about to go to bed and I catch Some Kind of Wonderful. It had only been on about 15 minutes and I got totally sucked in. Oh 80s movies, how I love you...even when you're on until midnight.

I hadn't seen this in forever and forgot how completely awesome it is...how will this love triangle ever work out?!
Keith, you idiot, why don't you see how much Watts loves you?
And I forgot what an super, terrific bad guy Hardy was (on left), though I did spend much of the movie thinking he was Bobby Cox (on right) on Cougar Town. They aren't the same person, but without IMDB I would have sworn they were.
But no...Keith couldn't see Watts because he was madly in love with Amanda Jones.
He even painted her picture and hung it in a museum. Husband made two comments during the whole movie. One was that he didn't think the plot worked as well when the best friend was hotter than the "hot girl." The other was that the whole painting thing was super cheesy and would never work. I disagreed and said that move would score Keith second base at the very least.
But in the end everyone comes to their senses and Keith picks the right girl. Ahhhh, a happy ending.

I'm now seriously jonesing for some more 80s movies. Which ones are your favorites?

Monday Minute {5/30}

Monday Minute

1 - Aside from your armpits, what body part of yours sweats the most?
My head. I have a ton of really heavy hair, so it tends to trap lots of heat and gets sweaty.

2 - You have two slices of bread. You can add one additional ingredient to make a sandwich, but as much of it as you want. What are you putting on it?
Peanut butter. Yum. That whole vegetarian thing limits the options. But my first impulse was to say bacon. I've heard it makes everything better.

3 - Can you put your entire fist into your mouth?
Hold please. Not even close. I have some TMJ issues and a pretty small mouth so the fist is a no go.

4 - Open your email. How many emails do you have in your 'Inbox'?
1775 in my personal. Several thousand in my work email. I'd have to login to check for sure and on the weekend...no chance of that happening.

and finally...

5 - If an adult male is taken for ransom, is that considered kidnapping? I'm thinking that's more abduction or maybe man-napping. I'm sure there's some technical breakdown, but mostly it's all kidnapping.

You'll get cut...don't think you won't

Pie is a very strong willed little girl. I know you're shocked. And as she's inching ever closer to the terrible two's she's definitely pushing boundaries. There are so many things that have started to straight up piss her off...and she doesn't hesitate to let you know.

Here are just a few things that will get you cut in our house:

1) The blinds getting in the way of seeing outside. Clearly they have already been dealt with...
2) Someone else already being in her seat.
3) The snacks being all gone.
4) Not letting her eat the barrettes and cardboard the barrettes came on.
5) And most of all lately...when it's raining and she can't go in the pool.
That last one also results in lots of time spent at the window staring longingly at her pool. She adds to the sad act by whispering, "whazzat"

Hope you all have a wonderful and safe long weekend and that nothing straight up pisses you off :D

She looks like a cupcake

I can't believe I still have so many Easter pictures that I haven't posted. I have a whole set of Pie crafting an Easter surprise for the family that I'll get to soon. But I had to do these first.

I order some cascarones from Gracie's Eggies for all the kids to play with, okay and maybe for the grown ups too. They were beautiful and so much fun for everybody. It seemed like the confetti was everywhere, but I think most of it actually ended up in Pie's hair. And stuck there.

Her older cousin E saw her and started laughing like crazy. He finally managed to get out that with all the confetti in her hair she looked like a cupcake covered in sprinkles.

And he was completely right. A tasty, tasty cupcake!

Seriously Jimmy...we've had this talk already

So Husband, Brother, Brother in Law 1, Brother in Law 2, and some neighbors went to see Jimmy Buffett last night. I'm sure I'll have more stories (and hopefully pics) once he recovers enough to tell me, but for the time being I'm going to repost my open letter to Jimmy after last year's show. Originally posted 4/28/2010.

Just replace The Varsity with Slopes BBQ and the rest is still dead on.

***********
Dearest Jimmy -

In the interest of full disclosure, I should start this note with the fact that I am not a fan. I'm sure you're a really nice multi-gazillionaire, but your music just isn't my scene. I am, however, exposed to it in great volumes because my husband is what you crazy kids call a parrothead. He loves your music, admires your life (steel drums and all), and as if all of that weren't bad enough, I have to live with the after effects of your concerts too.

You were in town last night and my husband, brother and two brothers-in-law went to the show. I feel like it's important that you know the damage done by this event. In chronological order:
  • Husband spent a crapton of money on booze for the pre-show festivities.
  • He has spent weeks "in training" to build up his tolerance and bladder in preparation.
  • He has also spent these weeks talking incessantly about what the show will be like, what music they should listen to on the way to and from the show, etc driving me utterly crazy.
  • They stopped at The Varsity (Slopes BBQ this year) for dinner. This is not a good choice given Husband's cholesterol issues.
  • At the show itself much revelry and drinking was had by all.
  • On the way home from the show, they stopped at the Waffle House. Again with the cholesterol.
  • He stumbled into our house about 1:00am, waking me up. Thank god he didn't wake up our daughter...this would be a very different letter if he had.
  • He then proceeded to stink the joint up with all his booziness. Even when he was not in the room I could smell him. I fear permanent damage may have been done to the linens...the mattress...the carpet. Can drywall hold a smell? If we have to replace that too, you'll be getting a bill.
  • He woke me up around 4:00am to let me know he might vomit. Why he felt the need to have a discussion about this, I couldn't say.
  • And as the cherry on top, just being in a three meter range of him, I could taste the alcohol. Not pleasant when you haven't been drinking yourself.
I'm sure you mean well, bringing "joy and music" to the masses, but as you can clearly see it causes problems. Please take this into consideration the next time you are planning a tour.

Fins to the right and all that...

Kisses,
Sara

Spring has sprung

We'll put aside the fact that this is what I saw when I got in the car today...it's spring, not (NOT) summer Mother Nature.
And focus instead on the fact that we kept hearing lots of peeps outside (and not the marshmallow kind) and figured it was the normal birdy activity. But it was pretty constant, so we finally took a look. And there on top a column on my front porch were these little guys.

I went out today to try and get some better pictures but they were already gone. Looks like they had snuggled enough at my house and had moved on to a bigger place. We took Pie out to see them while I was taking the pictures and her face was equal parts fascination and concern. But their little peeps cracked her up.

What springy things have you been noticing?

Monday Minute {5/23}

Monday Minute

1 - Think back as far as you can, what's the first tape, record, etc you remember listening to?
James Taylor. My dad is a huge fan and it's always been a part of my life. So much so that Husband and I chose a James Taylor song for our first dance. And my dad and I danced to a JT song as well.

2 - What's the first concert you've ever been to, the year and who performed?
That would be JT again. Whenever he came to town our whole family would go. It was usually at an outdoor amphitheater and we'd have snacks and sing along and snuggle under blankets. It was awesome.

3 - Ever bleed from your ass?
Talk about shifting gears. And the answer, thankfully, is no. From just about every other square inch of my body, yes. I have the grace of a drunk monkey on roller skates. I can hurt myself in bare feet on flat ground.

4 - If you went to your Senior Prom and had a date, do you still speak to said person?
No prom for me. In fact I only still talk to one person I went to high school with...I run into other occasionally. But those people are never on purpose.

and finally...

5 - Name the one television show that's no longer on the air that could have gone on forever.
Ohhh...this is a good one. And there are a bunch of them. Maybe Studio 60. It was so well written, really clever. And I like shows that aren't in one box. I loved that it was comedy and drama.

Favorite Things

Today I'm over at the fabulous My Favorite Things talking about...well...a few of my favorite things. Check it.

Also is it just me or has Office Max gotten really sloppy about quality control?

How do you respond...

To people who make assumptions about your character, morals, even religious beliefs because you have adopted?

To people who respond to the information about your child's ethnicity with comments like, "well at least she looks white" ?

To people who are surprised, and not in a good way, that you are the one who works and your Husband stays home with the baby?

To people who say, "now that you have a baby and can relax and you'll be pregnant in no time" ?

To people who see you with all the extra chunk in your trunk, and immediately look at your child to see if they are regular baby chubby or if you've been pumping Wendy's Frosties intravenously into her while she sleeps?

To people who make assumptions about whether or not you're done adding to your family and how you must feel about it?

To yourself when:
  • you don't know the answers
  • you feel guilty and greedy for wanting more kids, but still want them anyway
  • you're proud that you adopted a multi-ethnic kid, not because of the adoption or the ethnicities, but because she's amazing
  • all that you've ever wanted is to be a great mom, and you're not sure you're living up to that
How do you respond?

My Own Museum

I saw this on someone's site a million years ago (if it was you let me know so I can give credit where it's due) and loved the idea. And I apologize in advance for the eleventy gazillion pictures.

So here it is, my little fridge museum. I love, love, love getting art from my niece and nephews. And I'm a huge fan of it in magnet form. Here are a few I'm loving right now.
And then there are the comics...
(of course I had to have Pi...hehe)
(We've had this one forever. It's so true. Husband is my favorite place.)
(Always good to have a reminder.)

And the random stuff...
(I cut this out of a magazine years and years ago. It was such a great representation of what I wanted)
(Front of a card that Husband gave me. I love the little elephants.)
(The lot our house is built on just before construction started.)
(I got this magnet in first grade...I think...I love it and want to recreate it for Pie)

And, of course, the fridge wouldn't be complete without Husband's contributions...

What's on your fridge? I wanna see!
